MGM Healthcare Malar, Adyar performed a life-saving liver transplant on an 8-month-old infant weighing just 5.5 kg, diagnosed with Chronic Liver Disease due to Extrahepatic Biliary Atresia.

The child was in a critical condition with severe complications including recurrent ascites, cholangitis, jaundice, poor weight gain, and frequent infections, necessitating urgent intervention.

In a remarkable act of courage, the child’s father came forward as a living liver donor, enabling the multidisciplinary transplant team to carry out this highly complex procedure.

Despite the challenges associated with performing transplants on such young and underweight patients, the surgery was meticulously planned and executed under the leadership of Dr. Anil Vaidya and his team.

The child is now recovering well under close observation, marking a significant milestone in advanced pediatric liver care and reaffirming MGM Healthcare Malar’s commitment to delivering timely, expert-driven treatment for critically ill children.

Sai’s Story of Recovery from Drowning at MGM Healthcare Malar Adyar

We are deeply moved to share the incredible recovery story of Mr. Sai, a college student from Andhra Pradesh studying in Chennai. On 19th April 2024, what was meant to be a fun day at Thiruvanmiyur beach turned into a life-threatening emergency. Sai drowned but was quickly brought to MGM Healthcare Malar Adyar by his friends and local heroes.

When Dr. Vinod Prem Anand first saw Sai, he was gasping for breath and desaturating. Our dedicated ER team worked tirelessly, intubating him and placing him on a ventilator. Sai’s condition was critical, with only a 5% chance of survival. Over the next two days, our medical team fought relentlessly against potential lung infections caused by seawater.

Amazingly, Sai began to show signs of improvement. By the second day, he regained consciousness and was communicating. On the third day, he was extubated and asked about his friends who saved him.

Thanks to the exceptional care at MGM Healthcare Malar Adyar, Sai was discharged on the fifth day, filled with gratitude and joy. This remarkable journey highlights the importance of knowing basic life-saving skills like swimming and CPR.
